“And the world it moved around us”.

First things first- a note on our name. It’s a line from the Dancing Years song of a similar name (linked at the bottom so you can listen while you read!), which been on most of our playlists since we started travelling together so seemed fitting!

I say we, because two of us will be running this blog and everything written here we have experienced together. The great thing about this (along with having two sets of eyes for proof-reading), is that we will be incorporating our varying perspectives of our experiences into the one blog to give a thoroughly rounded view on all the things we post here.

A little introduction:

We are a couple in our early twenties from the North of England. We have been together for five years and best friends for a lot longer. We have a lot in common- our love of music, writing, reading, bickering but most importantly- travelling. We have kept a travel journal on all of our adventures, so we thought, perhaps if we publish some of our own experiences it could be useful (and hopefully very entertaining) to others too. A friend suggested that we share some of our stories after seeing some of our pictures so we thought we’d give it a try and, hey, if no one ever reads it- we have a copy of our journals wherever we are!

What our blogs will include:

Adventures we’ve been on so far: it’s safe to say, over the past five years, every spare penny we’ve scraped together, we have spent on concerts, festivals, books or travelling and we’ve accumulated a fair amount of experience. We’ve travelled much of Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand on the cheap and this kind of experience may come in handy for others just like us!

Adventures we’re planning: at this stage of our twenties, the world can feel pretty big and pretty daunting. It is therefore really important to set out clearly what we intend to do and give handy tips on how we intend to achieve it, to help others with dreams that seem almost too big or too muddled. Our 10 year plans include a North America road trip, travelling in Canada and hopefully living and working in a foreign country – having the time to make friends, experience the culture in greater depth and hopefully learn the language on some level!

Activity recommendations: from ghost walks and mountain climbs to skydives, we’ve tried a wide range of crazy things and seen a whole load of museums along the way. Here, we’ll give reviews to guide you wherever you are including cultural activities, adrenaline rushes and historical stuff in fairly equal measure!

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD recommendations: from hostelworld to AirBnB, booking accommodation that meets your needs can be stressful on a budget when you’re on foreign shores, so we will provide a breakdown of some of the best places we’ve stayed.

Books that have inspired us: we’ve read so many books while we’ve been on buses, planes, trains, stuck in hostels on rainy days. And particularly in recent years we’ve kept note of those we’ve found inspiring for our journeys and outlined the quotes that mean the most to us! So we can share reviews of some of the books we found to be of the greatest impact whilst we’ve been On the Road.

PMA: plans can change, trips can be interrupted or just too expensive, things can be disappointing, you might not meet your kind of people on your travels. So much can go wrong, life is unpredictable and flexibility and acceptance is key. Here, we’ll share our thoughts on keeping a positive mental attitude not only whilst travelling, but in those months where you may feel stagnant working out what to do, working too hard to save money or feeling lost (literally and/or metaphorically) and more recently, Covid-19.

We would also love to connect with others and receive tips in return so we can make our money and time stretch further in future and be inspired to try different activities.

On a personal level, this blog will also help to remind us all that we’ve achieved so far, for those days when we’re feeling stuck in a rut we can be reminded of all the goals we’ve fulfilled and keep us focused and motivated to continue dreaming.

So, nice to meet you and welcome!
